Ranked 2nd best resort in the USA and 22nd best in the world by Condes Nast Magazine in 2010
The Resort at Pelican Hill was inspired by some of Tuscany's most beautiful hillside villages, in terms of the layout, the trees and vegetation and indeed the architecture of the main buildings, olive trees are in abundance to make you feel you are in Italy! Playing golf here is like being in golfing heaven, it really as good as golf and scenery can ever be worldwide and that is no exaggeration.
Welcome to the no 2 golf resort in the whole of the USA and recently also ranked the number 1 golf resort in California and that is some accolade, as this state has some competition in the quality stakes. These awards were made by prestigious Condes Nast Travel magazine.
The Resort at Pelican Hill was opened in 2008 after a huge investment, this involved the closure of the established golf courses during the development of the hotel from 2006 to 2008, two courses which were originally created in 1992 and designed by Tom Fazio.
Nowhere we have visited has the amazing views that one can experience golfing at Pelican Hill - both golf courses sit perched on high rolling hillsides with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and the seaside resort and town of Newport Beach with its outstanding marina. The real estate at Pelican Hill is in America's top 3 most expensive and desirable addresses, Tiger Woods has recently bought a plot here and is building a hill top luxury villa for his mother overlooking the Pacific which you can see from the South Course.
The resort is just 55 minutes south of Los Angeles airport above Newport Beach just north of Laguna Beach, a beautiful and privileged piece of land on the Pacific Ocean. The accommodation is built in the style of a 17th century Italian designer and has standard rooms as garden view and ocean view bungalows, which are simply outstanding in size, amenities and decor. We would say that the bathrooms are the best we have come across in the USA. The hotel has stunning amenities with great staff and excellent levels of service throughout the hotel and golf course facilities. You can eat in the Pelican Grill in the Clubhouse, which in itself is an award winning restaurant or the Coliseum in the hotel equally impressive with parallel breath taking views of the ocean.
The golf clubhouse is about 3 minute’s drive away from the hotel, but there is a courtesy shuttle running from the hotel lobby. The Resort has their own beach club down by the ocean and a courtesy shuttle will take you down to the beautiful crystal cove beach.
In addition to the bungalows at Pelican Hill there is a separate check in and reception and main building for the villas, with 2, 3 and 4 bedroom villas available - ideal for larger golfing parties or families - spacious and idyllic in all aspects with even better views than the bungalows and a separate pool and lounge terraced areas uniquely for villa clientele.
If you want a change from the North and South courses the resort own a 3rd course at Oak Creek - equally impressive an established members club 35 minute’s drive inland and designed by Tom Fazio.
