Dona Filipa Hotel’s outdoor heated pool (heated all year round) is bliss – take a refreshing dip whilst gazing out at the Atlantic Ocean or relax on a sun-lounger with a book and a drink from the pool bar. What’s more, the hotel has a private beach club on the Vale do Lobo Beach just 200 metres away. Golf Courses
Guests staying at Dona Filipa Hotel enjoy privileged complimentary access to San Lorenzo Golf Course and Pinheiros Altos Golf Course. These courses are both in extremely high demand in Portugal.
Set in the beautiful Ria Formosa Nature Reserve, San Lorenzo is surrounded by a thick pine forest, with lakes and lagoons and many holes directly on the coast. One ranked as the second best course in Europe, the 18-hole, par 72 course sits alongside the Atlantic Ocean and was designed by American architect Joseph Lee. There are many highlights, including the 18th hole, a brilliant risk-reward hole, where you have to avoid the water that runs up the left side before trying to land your shot on the island green – an incredible finish.
This beautiful course is lined with trees and boasts gently undulating fairways, well-manicured greens and well-placed hazards. On the fringes of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, the course has two layouts – “Pines and Olives” and “Corks”. The two nines are vastly different in character; the outward half winds through the lovely pine trees, traversing the sandy turf of the coastline, whilst the closing stretch is distinctly more undulating, and is punctuated with a number of challenging water hazards.
