Loch Lomond

For the golfing world Loch Lomond has been known as venue of the Scottish Open for the last 12 years and it certainly comes over on TV as the most scenic golf course in Britain – if not Europe. This is a chance to stay at Cameron House Hotel, just south of Loch Lomond Golf Club, which boasts its very own magnificent 18 hole course, known as the Carrick which has spectacular views of the Loch.

Situated just 45 minutes north of Glasgow the magic of Loch Lomond is its easy accessibility from Glasgow and it is on the main road which heads north to the Highlands or the Western Isles via Oban, the perfect resting place between two worlds apart, the city life and the big country beyond! Loch Lomond has the largest surface area of fresh water Loch in the UK. The Loch is 24 miles long and five miles wide and at its deepest point is some 600 feet deep. On the Loch there are approximately 38 Islands, some of them inhabited and there is even a Hotel on one, Inchmurrin.

Loch Lomond must be the world’s most famous Loch and has been much written about, both in song and verse. The area is renowned for its beauty and tranquillity and offers picture postcard views around every corner.

The Loch is crossed by the Highland Boundary Fault and exhibits the physical characteristics of both highland and Lowland Scotland. Some 200 species of birds and over 25% of Britain's wild plants have been recorded in the area.
