The Tortuga Bay is an exquisite boutique beach hotel at Puntacana, this is a special property where attention to detail is everything. Every unit has a villa manager to look after you during your stay, personal attention here is paramount and the hotel hosts the rich and famous including Hollywood Film stars, top professional footballers and athletes. The privacy and tranquillity is a major feature at Tortuga Bay, with stunning lead in rooms, great staff and ambience, superb cuisine and an excellent beach club and just a short shuttle away access to the Six Senses Spa which is one of the finest spas in the Caribbean. The hotel has a stunning white sand beach and close proximity to the impressive La Cana 27 hole golf course, which has such an impressive golf clubhouse and courtesy transfers are available to this course and indeed to the premium course designed by Tom Fazio, the amazing Corales.
Clients staying at Tortuga Bay also have the option of taking the all inclusive deal, which allows complimentary drinks and food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) including drinks not just in the hotel but also at the golf clubs and the Westin Punta Cana restaurant outlets, giving a nice dine around possibility. Residents also get much better green fee prices at these two golf courses than at other hotels.
One of the other big advantages of the hotel is that the owners also own the airport at Puntacana (the largest privately owned airport in the world), this means that when you arrive or depart you have access to the totally unique express VIP Fast Track facility. You are picked up at your aircraft in a golf buggy and whisked away through immigration in a very fast and efficient manner, you can be at the resort in less than 1 hour from landing, amazing! Similarly on departure you can avoid all queues and go straight through to a VIP lounge off the main departure lounge and then taken out in a buggy across the runway to the plane….You too will feel like a celebrity!

27 holes of magnificent golf on the ocean side – in fact 14 of the 27 holes have direct ocean view, all designed by PB Dye one of America’s finest architects. The three nines are Tortuga, Hacienda and Arrecife. This is one of the first courses in the Caribbean to be designed with paspalum grass. La Cana is a little easier than Corales, but definitely one of the Caribbean’s top 5 courses.
Corales is a superior course to La Cana and caddies are mandatory only payable locally, who accompany you on your buggy and the fee is $35 per 18 holes plus a tip of circa $15 minimum. Corales is an exhilarating golf course with very generous wide fairways, beautifully manicured, a multitude of fairways bunkers and greenside bunkers, raised greens and the difficulty here is all about the approach play and the chipping and putting rather than difficult tee shots. Holes 7,8 and 9 and 16 -18 are the stand out holes, but honestly one could argue that the inland holes here at Corales are the best holes!
We both loved the resort. All the arrangements ran perfectly with the exception of heavy rain for the last few days. Cannot blame Elegant for that! The positioning of the room could not have been better and the use of your own personal buggy for your duration was most useful. We thought the quality of food and service at The Bamboo Restaurant was good – maybe one criticism would be that the Dinner menu never varied. Being met at the airport prior to passport control was very nice as were the arrangements when we left the resort. The staff were excellent, very attentive and always had an eagerness to please. They were always very polite and remembered who you were. No complaints about the room - excellent maid service – extremely efficient and timely when working in the room. It always looked immaculate, even when we returned from dinner.Corales Golf Course is probably one of my top ten favourite golf courses. Punta Cana courses are also good and a pleasure to play. Punta Escada was well worth the visit but personally I preferred Corales. I would like to play Teeth of the Dog next time we visit. The caddies an Corales were a class above those at Punta Escada. Tortuga Bay is without doubt one of the best small resorts you could ever wish to visit. The whole complex is wonderfully laid out and the rooms are quite outstanding with a bathroom each. The staff are possibly the nicest you could wish to meet and cannot do enough for you. The golf courses are outstanding although different price they are both a joy to play. David Minton (Feb.16)
