There are three golf courses included in the hotel rates, except in the height of the summer season and these are Morgado Requengo, Morgado Alamos and Salgados, three very different and contrasting 18 holes. You will not have time to play golf out of the packages offered with these three, so we do not recommend you pay extra for off resort golf in this hotel offer. Salgados is just 5 minutes from the hotel and the two Morgado courses operate from the same clubhouse about 35 minute's drive away.
The Old Morgado course opened in 2004 and is a Championship 18 hole course, long at about 7,000 yards and with a generous par of 73. The course is designed over rolling hills with a touch of a Scottish links with plenty of pot bunkers on tee shots and surrounding greens. The course also has a fair sprinkling of water hazards, it is immaculately maintained and boasts large undulating greens making the putting and chipping very difficult. Situated just north of Portimao on the West Algarve, it covers nearly 1,000 hectars making it a huge piece of land.
This course opened in 2006 and was designed by European Golf Design, who were also responsible for the Montgomerie in Turkey which opened in late 2008. Laid out through rolling Algarve hillside with a pleasant mix of cork trees and pines trees, it is a little more tight, but a little shorter than the older Requengo course, but an excellent and very natural test of golf and undoubtedly one of the best new additions to golf courses in the Algarve.
Salgados is a classic links style 18 hole course, without any natural dunes, most holes look out over the Atlantic and 16 of the 18 holes have very tough water features, so although the course is totally flat, it really is a great test of golf, where a strong nerve is required on almost every tee shot and plenty of approach shots. It is best described as a marshland course rather than a links, similar to what you would find in South Carolina or Florida, but not typical of the Algarve at all. It is located just 5 minutes from the Hotel.
