Nestled between the hills of Son Vida and the island's capital of Palma, the Arabella resort consists of three classic courses, Son Vida, Son Quint & Son Muntaner. All 3 beautiful parkland layouts with deciduous forest, hills and valleys and lots of panoramic views and designed through mixed vegetation, always an interesting challenge. A few kilometres from Palma, the capital of the island, you will find the 3 courses that comprise Arabella Golf in Mallorca. The traditional and legendary Son Vida, the spectacular & magnificent Son Muntaner, and the new course with sea-views Son Quint which opened in September 2007. Residents of the 3 Starwood Hotels are offered complimentary shuttle services to all 3 golf courses.
Son Muntaner was added in May 2000, when Kurt Rossknecht who renovated Son Vida, returned to work on a tougher longer companion for its sister course.
Son Muntaner is a player's course, and from the 1st hole you're confronted by difficult approach shots over water to bunkered greens. A slithering lake runs the length of the 2nd and 3rd holes, testing your accuracy on each shot.
Son Muntaner boasts Mallorca's oldest olive tree - "Sa Capitana" is said to be 1,000 years old. It stands near the 15th tee, so do try to avoid belting it with a golf ball!
The joy of playing here not only lies in having to shape the ball off the tee to get the ideal position for your second shot, but also in the size of the greens which offer the opportunity for varied pin positions, making the course play differently every day.
Son Vida Golf is the Mallorca's first and most celebrated course. It was designed by Fred Hawtree in 1964 and renovated in 2001 by Kurt Rossknecht.
It is famed for its wide fairways and breathtaking views over the bay of Palma de Mallorca. At 6,125 yards it is short by modern standards, but it is known for its sweeping doglegs and its dramatic closing hole - a par 5, where a second shot over water appeals to the aggressive golfer.
Ramon Espinosa of "Garden & Golf" designed the 18 hole course with two big lakes, extends over 6200 metres of spectacular Mallorcan countryside; through pine & ancient olive trees. Thanks to its elevated position Son Quint has an amazing view of the lively Palma area, and the sparkling sea of the bay of Palma.
The well-placed bunkers will challenge experienced golfers, and four different tee-box positions enable a variety of play.
The grass at Son Quint will be dense and an intensely green colour, even in the high summer temperatures. For this purpose Ramon Espinosa has chosen the fine "Princess" type of grass. After an exceptional round of golf you will be able to enjoy the clubhouse with its exquisite facilities for restaurants & small groups.
Carlo Knauss, ex-federal golf trainer of Germany; sports commentator of PPV Premiere & consultant for the new Son Quint golf course, comments, "Son Quint will dazzle players looking for variety and something a little special. For example at hole 8, the highest point on the course, you will tee-off facing directly towards Palma Cathedral."
