The magnificent Aphrodite Hills lies adjacent to the hotel and we don't at this point recommend any courses off resort, as they are not at the level whereby we would recommend them.
This is Cyprus's latest and best golf course. It already rivals some of Europe's finest. The American golf course architect Cabell Robinson, who has built some of Europe's finest courses like La Reserva, was given the spec to provide a top class course to compliment the 5 star hotel and exclusive resident community. He did a fantastic job here in Cyprus.
The course is 12 miles from Paphos set on two plateaus, that overlook the Mediterranean. This is a protected forest area of olive and carob trees, that gently slope down to one of the islands finest and most sheltered beaches. A dominant characteristic of the course, is the way in which all but a few of the holes have a view of the sea. The natural topography is gentle, but there is enough undulation to give each hole a distinct character - the 7th is a par 3 which is one of the most spectacular in Europe. The greens are Pencross (Creeping Bent), and the fairways are fully irrigated with Tifway 419 Bermuda grass, which should, in late summer, provide a wonderful contrast to the golden grasses of the rough.
There is a large stone built clubhouse with, restaurant, bar, and Pro shop. There is also a double ended 350m practice range, short game practice facilities and 3 academy holes. Buggies here are mandatory.
Elea Golf Club will be officially opened by Nick Faldo in the Autumn of 2010, a magnificent 18 hole par 71 layout which is located just 10 minutes from Aphrodite Hills. The course is laid out through avanues of mature carob and olive trees whilst the dramatic outcrops of weathered limestone strike a contrast with the deep green of the seaside paspalum grass fairways and semi rough.
Nick Faldo sums up the overall preview of the course well - "when we designed the course at Elea Golf Club we decided to put the emphasis on thoughtful rather than big hitting, there are plenty of strageic riddles for the golfer to explore and unravel over all 18 holes. This new course will really have a big hand in establishing Cyprus as a more rounded golf holiday destination".
The green fees at Elea will not be cheap, but the concept here is all about quality and not quantity, not volumes of golfers going through the clubhouse but about a high quality discerning golfer experience instead.
