What a stunning boutique golf resort this venue is! The beautiful gardens of Palheiro are the backdrop for this wonderful hotel. Set 500 metres above sea level, looking down onto the Atlantic Ocean, you could be forgive for thinking you had died and gone to a golfer's heaven. Stunning vistas of Funchal are apparent from golf course.
The hotel was once a 19th century hunting lodge owned by Count Carvalhal, an eccentric member of the local landed gentry. Split into three buildings, the hotel has fine bedrooms as one can imagine for a property of this class and we recommend that you reserve a junior or senior suite to maximise your enjoyment of your stay. There are colonial style activities such as croquet, billiards, a cards room and these are complemented by some good leisure facilities which include sauna and a steam room. The main highlight of the resort, however, is the fine gourmet restaurant which is about as good as any restaurant could be. For other dining options there is a tea house in the gardens or one can eat in Palheiro Golf Clubhouse which has one of the world´s finest views.
